Christianity Abraham the Patriarch

Généalogie de la Bible [World Chronicle from Creation to the Year 1461]. France, after 1461. NYPL, Manuscripts and Archives Division.

In this profusely illustrated scroll, "Abraham Patriarche" is depicted in a miniature portrait in the roundel at upper left, against a landscape between two pillars, holding a banderole with his name.

More than 40 feet long, Généalogie de la Bible covers the eras from the beginning of the world down to the year 1461. It depicts biblical history and then gives detailed information on popes, emperors, the kings of France, and the kings of England. The French kings figure most prominently, and the last coronation portrait is of King Louis XI of France (1423–1483), who succeeded his father, Charles VII, in July 1461. The last English king listed is "Henry of Lancaster," that is, Henry VI (1421–1471).
