Christianity The First Bible in Czech

Biblia Bohemica [Bible], in Czech. Prague, 1488. NYPL, Rare Book Division.

This is the first complete Christian Bible printed in the Czech (Bohemian) vernacular, the Gothic text reportedly following a version prepared by Jan Hus (1369–1415) and his circle.

The colophon explains the stature of the financial backers of this historic and very expensive production: "Those eminent men and citizens Master John Pytlík, Master Severyn the Merchant, Alderman for this year, Master John of the Stork, and Master Mathias of the White Lion."
