Description Robert Benchley (1889-1945), a popular presence at the Round Table, was one of the best-loved writers and actors of his time. He wrote drama and press criticism for The New Yorker, as well as humorous articles, and appeared in many short films based on his own comic sketches, including The Treasurer's Report and The Sex Life of the Polyp.
