Title Schoolchildren lining up for lunch
Description Jessie Tarbox Beals was the first woman to be hired as a newspaper photographer when she began her photojournalism career in 1902. In May 1905, Tarbox Beals had settled in New York, where she was known for her portraits of the artists and writers of Greenwich Village. By the nineteen-teens, after the birth of her daughter, she took an interest in capturing the street children of the city.
