Maiden Lane, New York/Jewelry Centre of the World

Dublin Core

Title Maiden Lane, New York/Jewelry Centre of the World
Description Maiden Lane, located in the heart of downtown Manhattan's financial district, was once the jewelry capital of the United States. This lithograph illustrates the area's constant hustle (and the public's apparent appetite for watches). Heading into the first quarter of the 20th century, however, most of the jewelry shops that lined the Lane steadily moved north, making room for downtown's growing insurance and banking industries.
