Manuscript Excerpt: Bacchanale

This is Cage's first work for prepared piano. Lack of stage space prohibited Cage from using the percussion ensemble originally conceived for this work. His solution was to create a piano that sounded like a group of percussion instruments, accomplished by inserting objects between the piano's stings.
